This project will support the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) in implementing effective interventions to reduce chronic absenteeism. The Gulf Comprehensive Center will develop and distribute an actionable playbook outlining how to form a local action team, use data to identify students most at risk, develop a tiered response plan, and implement corresponding evidence-based interventions. The project team in collaboration with its state partners expects to achieve the following short-term (1 year), medium-term (2-3 years), and long-term (4+ years) outcomes as described below.
Expected Outcomes
- Short-Term Outcome
- Increased knowledge of barriers and facilitators for state/local staff to address chronic absenteeism, including national and state-specific evidence-based interventions
- Medium-Term Outcome
- Increased use of data by district/school staff to identify students at risk of chronic absenteeism and implement appropriate evidence-based interventions
- Long-Term Outcome
- Reduced chronic absenteeism in participating districts and schools
