Heidi Piatek
Heidi Piatek is a Research Associate at RMC, providing planning support and technical assistance for the Gulf Comprehensive Center and the Florida Department of Education. Heidi also provides training and coaching to English learner teachers for the REL Southeast’s Alabama Research Partnership on Improving English Learner Outcomes project and is an evaluator and training and coaching facilitator for district English learners program Evaluation and Master Planning. She formerly served the National Association for the Education of Young Children, identifying evidence-based practices and assessing and evaluating early childhood programs throughout the country. Previously, she served on the Early Reading First funded Wisconsin Reading Acquisition Program in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology at Marquette University, assessing bilingual, dual-language Head Start classrooms and children and coaching teachers on evidence-based developmental linguistic progress methods in second language acquisition and literacy. She has been involved in numerous early childhood research projects focusing on state and local education systems, including the Study of the Program for Infant Toddler Care with WestEd and Berkely Policy Associates and the Head Start Impact Study, as well as multiple phases of longitudinal studies, such as RFIS, EMERGE, and ECLS. As an Intercultural Trainer and Program Facilitator, Heidi has served the corporate culture and language solutions community, providing capacity building in unique cultural contexts. Heidi is also a former secondary ESL teacher. She earned an M.A. in English Linguistics from University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. Mrs. Piatek holds certification from Wisconsin in TESOL, K–12 Spanish, and K–12 ESL.
