Miriam B. Ortiz
Miriam Ortiz, Ph.D., Research Associate, is an education researcher who is passionate about helping others implement what current research presents as evidence-based strategies in teaching and learning. Dr. Ortiz works closely with educators and researchers across the country to improve the academic achievement of struggling students and students with disabilities. Within RMC, Dr. Ortiz supports the Gulf Comprehensive Center on projects to support the outcomes of English learners and students with disabilities, as well as the Nevada Transition Roadmap through Innovative Partnerships grant. She has been research manager for multiple IES grants and is the current executive director for the Division for Learning Disabilities of the Council for Exceptional Children. She has taught courses and delivered professional development on the Science of Reading, Behavior Management and Intervention, Assessment, Program Evaluation, and Special Education. She has been a middle-school classroom teacher for students with behavior disorders. Dr. Ortiz has also coauthored several peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters on the topic of reading instruction for students with varying disabilities and assisted with the development and revision of several curricula.
