Wendy Clemons
Wendy Clemons joined the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) in July 2015 and currently serves as Chief Academic Officer and a member of the Department’s executive leadership team. In this role, she provides statewide leadership for Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education, including oversight of the Divisions of Literacy and Mathematics, Special Education, Federal Programs, and Compulsory School Attendance and Dropout Prevention. Prior to her current role, Ms. Clemons served as director of secondary innovation, director of professional development, and associate state superintendent, where she led the development and implementation of K–12 academic standards, accelerated programs, and innovative school initiatives across the state. She began her career as a high school social studies teacher in Clinton, Mississippi, after earning her degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. Ms. Clemons later earned a degree in Educational Administration from Mississippi State University and served for 11 years in the Rankin County School District as a lead teacher, secondary curriculum director, and K–12 building administrator. She also previously served at MDE as director of the Division of Curriculum.
